Saturday 14th 2:00pm Junior High School (indoor)

Set at the height of WWI, the film is based on the true story of the 1st Russian Women’s Battalion. The idea of the Russian Government was that the presence of women warriors would shame timid soldiers into resuming their combat duties. The peasant, Maria Bochkareva, who had already served in the Army since 1914, leads the women at the front line. When the tired male soldiers hesitate in occupying the German trenches, the women attack without them leading the way heroically. Dubbed “the Russian GI Jane”, Battalion won awards at the Russian film festival Vivat, Kino Rossii and The Honolulu Film Awards in Honolulu.
